Shirley

Shirley is a Board-Certified Music Therapist Clinician & Educator. She has a Masters Degree in Special Education (Emphasis: Emotional/Behavorial Disabilities) from the University of Southern Mississippi & a Master of Music in Music Therapy from the University of Miami, Florida. Her Bachelor's Degree of Music in Education from Jackson State University & she's currently a Graduate Seminary Student from The King’s University, Southlake, Texas. She works in Systematic Music Therapy Healthcare Ministry and was a Special Educator for Holmes County School District for many years. As a Special Educator, she worked with children and youth challenged with emotional/behavioraldisorders/disabilities and mild/moderate disabilities. She also taught High school and elementary general music education withinclusion students including music therapy perspectives. As a Music Minister, she served in different areas, including congregational music,choral music and singing, piano instruction perspectives, and musical special events. Her other recent activities include her focus as seminarian withextended ministry work in chaplaincy based on graduate practicums through clinical pastoral education, Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.Her leadership of School Choir and General Music classes provided a comprehensive program that offered students opportunities to create, perform, listen to and analyze music. Special events in the classroom curriculum and seasonal events in the gymnasium. Her work in Elementary Music classes included participation in singing, instrumental performances, music reading, music theory and analysis. As a Music Therapist, she has worked in Adult Psychiatric Men’s Unit: Planned, conducted, and evaluated music therapy groups through treatment plan goals and documentation in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Creative Arts Therapy Supervisor: Organized and implemented an innovative program that integrated music, art, dance, and drama. Supervised creative arts therapy assistants. Therapy Supervisor: Planned, implemented, and evaluated music therapy programming for chronic psychiatrically challenged patients on one unit.
